Artist's Statement
Angela Gardner’s dual practice as both a printmaker and poet inform these printed works based on the texts of her poems. Although readable in a textual and literary sense they are informed by an understanding of visual composition and of the emotional nuances of colour – they should be seen as a personal visual reworking of the textual elements of the narrative once the original poems have been completed rather than a straight printing of the poems. The Night Ladder poems, explore the underlying fears, warnings and moralities in the modern ‘wildwood’ of celebrity and the city and the Twelve Labours she examines the role of the hero and of heroic acts.
