Night Ladder is a collaborative project between poet and artist Angela Gardner, and printmakers Gwenn Tasker and Lisa Pullen that looks at mythology as a site of truths for both societal and personal interpretation. The resulting limited edition books are Night Ladder, a dark and edgy rewriting of fairy stories; and Twelve Labours, in which the labours of Heracles are re-imagined and heroism reframed. Both strive to evoke philosophical and ethical questions around the issues of gender, authority, violence and the relationship between the human and the rest of the natural world. This project is supported by an Arts Queensland Visual Arts & Crafts Strategy grant and is part of a wider endeavour to explore ways of bringing printmaking and poetry together.
